There are healthy and safety guidelines governing the use of lift trucks. Any huge machinery, like a lift truck, is potentially dangerous and should be operated safely. The regulations and rules state that the driver must carry out daily inspections on the lift truck and more thorough inspections on a weekly basis and every month. The following checks need to be performed on the lift truck:

Forklift Brakes - brakes on lift trucks are key features which must be double and triple checked. A brake inspection is carried out with various pressures and pedal heights to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights should be checked at the same time.

The Tires - the tires are also vital to the safe functioning of the truck and to the braking system. All the tires must be properly checked to make sure that there are no punctures in the tires and they are inflated to the proper pressure.

Controller - To determine whether the system is in good working condition, the lift truck controller system needs to be checked by operating the forks and the release mechanism. Any indication of problems should immediately reported and tended to. The forklift must not be used until the controller system has been fixed.

Steering Wheel - In order to make sure that the turning of the wheel is right, the driver must inspect the forklift steering wheel. Lift truck safety depends upon the steering wheel working accurately and responding well. There are different types of inspections that can be performed to determine the performance of the steering wheel.

Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine needs oil. The dipstick will show both the oil color and the level of the oil. The oil should be refilled if the level is very low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination occurring.

Fire Extinguisher - all forklift trucks are required to be outfitted with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher has to be checked to ensure it will function properly in the event of a fire. Different kinds of fire extinguisher should be checked in specific ways. Like for example, a dry chemical extinguisher has to be shaken.
