History
In the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The original name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machinery. In 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years. Presently, SMAG is the world's market leader, using grabs for worldwide cargo handling applications, agriculture and waste disposal.
