As opposed to a sit-down unit, the stand-up forklift model is totally different to utilize. The way at which you pick up cargo and your movements are completely different. If you do not have proper training for operating a stand-up unit, you can probably cause harm co-employees or to yourself. When utilizing a stand-up model, you need to follow the proper safety rules. There are a few basic operating standards that should be met when using a stand-up model.
To start on a stand-up unit forklift, it is essential to get a good feel for the controls and the steering knob. As opposed to a steering wheel, the steering is handled with the knob steering plate. Remember that this knob moves very fast, hence, you have to get used to moving it carefully in order to be certain not to over steer. The horn is situated on the control handle, as is the control for forwards, backwards and the movement of the forks. The floor pedal allows the equipment to move.
When you are ready to begin, turn the key to start the forklift. Be sure that your forks are retracted. If you are moving all-around the floor, the forks should be pointed slightly upwards. Never drive with the forks in their extended position. If you are moving forward, move the control handle forward and in order to make the lift move forward, step on the pedal. If you are backing up, be certain to beep your horn to warn people around you. Look behind you before stepping on the pedal in order to make sure the path is safe and clear. Then, while stepping on the pedal, pull the control handle towards you. Stay focused and alert and make sure that you are always operating in a safe manner.
When it comes to turning corners, turn your steering knob in the direction you have to go while keeping your hand on the control handle and your foot on the power pedal. When turning right, the steering knob will move in a clockwise direction during forward travel. If you are turning left, your steering knob would go in a counter-clockwise direction.
If you have only operated sit down models, the stand-up versions can take some getting used to. With some training and taking some time to know the equipment, you can quickly and efficiently handle loads in little time.
