Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on an extendable, straight arm that is situated on a rotating turntable. Usually, telescoping boom lifts are used for jobs which require reaching at maximum height, exceeding other types of lifts. Like for instance, workers can perform exterior repairs or renovations on medium sized buildings but using these lifts rather than having the extra work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The boom lift is only designed to hold one person. These buckets are better suited to specific tasks like for example electrical repair, rather than general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are available with both outdoor and indoor tires and come in electric and gas configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces below the work platform. These braces squeeze together in order to push the platform straight up. Since these types of equipment should be positioned directly beneath the work location, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, offer bigger platforms that enable the operator controlling the lift to access a larger work surface once the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these models, as they must sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are ideal for being utilized for window installation or cladding, because they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a good choice for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
Boom trucks, bucket trucks and cherry pickers each refer to the class a type of utility vehicle utilized particularly for vertical work. Typically, these types of trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and operates the equipment. There is a bucket for where the worker could stand as well as an actuator arm for raising the boom and a winch for lifting.
Boom trucks take personnel to heights that would normally be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to lift heavy materials or equipment from one location to another. There are a variety of different crane types that can perform various purposes. Both of these different types of machinery excel at various jobs and are great for particular applications and completing certain tasks.
